Coal Mining Accidents in Western Pennsylvania. One of the worst mine disasters in the United States occurred at the Darr Mine in Westmoreland County on Decem , when a gas and dust explosion killed miners. Notes: Recoverable coal reserves at producing mines represent the quantity of coal that can be recovered (i.e. mined) from existing coal reserves at reporting mines. EIA's estimated recoverable reserves include the coal in the demonstrated reserve base considered recoverable after excluding coal estimated to be unavailable due to land use. PREFACE This report on the coal resources of Indiana is the tenth of a series of State summary reports prepared by the Geological Survey as part of a program to estimate the coal reserves .
